Acrylc on pieced linen, 48" x 17"
In January 2011, two friends gave a potted amaryllis. The flamboyant growth and colour of this extravagant plant proved to be the impetus for me to shake off a dolour I had been experiencing in my paintings for months, and to complete two paintings of the flower. This one is an homage to Mondrian, who painted a beautiful image of an amaryllis in a similar colour to this one.
